  1. The govt. is considering a new “Reintegration Policy” draft that is under the consideration of the J&K government to encourage militants hailing from the state to give up arms.
    • It is a two-pronged approach: Reformative measures and Opportunities of livelihood.
    • There is also provision for a monthly stipend of Rs 6,000 for a militant who surrenders with a view to “encourage him to join the mainstream’.


  1. Prasar Bharati has brought 11 more State DD Channels on the Satellite footprint of India through DD Free Dish.
    • States – Chhattisgarh, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Uttarakhand.


  1. The cabinet has approved the National Mission on Transformative Mobility and Battery Storage.
    • The mission will have an Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee chaired by CEO of NITI Aayog.
    • The Mission will also launch the Phased Manufacturing Programmes (PMP) for Batteries and for Electric Vehicle components.
    • There is increase in Basic Customs Duty on parts of electric passenger vehicles to be assembled in India to 15 per cent from April 2020 and 10 per cent on imported lithium-ion cells by April 2021 to promote domestic manufacturing of EVs.


  1. According to report by Swedish-based think tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) titled ‘Trends in International Arms Transfers-2018, India was the world’s second largest importer of major arms in 2014-18 and accounted for 9.5 per cent of the global total.
    • India was the world’s largest importer of major arms for 2017 report (for the period 2013-17).
    • Saudi Arabia is the world’s largest importer of major arms in 2014-18.

    • Cloud-seeding – weather modification procedure –uses planes to spray clouds with chemicals to condense smaller particles into larger rain droplets.

  1. As per the latest report by the World Gold Council (WGC), India has the 11th largest gold reserve, with the current holding pegged at 607 tonnes.
    • India is the world’s largest consumer of gold.
    • India would have been tenth had the list included only countries.
    • Whereas, International Monetary Fund is included and is third on the list with total gold reserves of 2,814 tonnes.

    • It will replace the current US dollar.

  1. The State Bank of India (SBI) has become the first bank to link its interest rate on savings account to the repo rate of the Reserve Bank of India.
    • From May 1, 2019, savings bank deposits with balances above Rs 1 lakh will be linked to repo rate (6.25%) minus 2.75% with an effective saving account rate of 3.50% per annum.
    • In case of lending, all Cash Credit Accounts and Overdrafts with limits above Rs 1 lakh will be linked to the repo rate plus a spread of 2.25%—to 8.50%.
    • The interest rate remains unchanged for savings account holders and borrowers with cash credit and overdraft up to Rs 1 lakh.

  1. Pulse Polio programme for 2019 has been launched on the eve of National Immunisation Day.
    • The day was observed on March 10, 2019.
    • The last reported cases of wild polio in India were in West Bengal and Gujarat on 13 January 2011.
    • On 27 March 2014, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared India a Polio Free country.
