  1. Social-networking site Facebook launched two new India-specific tools called “Candidate Connect” and “Share You Voted” to boost civic engagement on its platform during the general elections.
    • Candidate Connect” – It will help people learn more about candidates
    • Share You Voted” – It will provide people with polling information and enable them to announce and celebrate their vote.

 

  1. As per the Global Multidimensional Poverty Index 2018 Report prepared by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative, India has reduced its poverty rate drastically from 55% to 28% in 10 years.
    • Total of 271 million people moved out of poverty between 2005-06 and 2015-16.
    • The report covers 105 countries.
    • The country still has the largest number of people living in multidimensional poverty in the world – 364 million people.
    • Bihar was the poorest state in 2015-16.
    • Jharkhand had the greatest improvement, followed by Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Nagaland.
    • Worldwide, 1.3 billion people live in multidimensional poverty.

  1. The Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules, 2019 has been notified by the Ministry for Health and Family Welfare with an aim to promote clinical research in the country.
    • The time for approving applications for drugs manufactured in India has been reduced to 30 days and 90 days for those developed outside the country.

 

  1. According to the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2019, New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has been named as the best airport of India, but globally ranking at 59 out of 100 airports.
    • Singapore’s Changi Airport has been crowned the World’s Best Aviation hub for the seventh time in a row.

  1. According to a report released by Opensignal, Dhanbad, in Jharkhand, is the “Hottest City” for 4G availability by scoring 95.3%.
    • It was followed by Ranchi which scored 95%.
    • Srinagar, with a 4G availability score of 94.9%, grabbed the third spot
    • Raipur in Chhattisgarh came fourth with a score of 94.8%.
    • Delhi and Mumbai were at the 39th and 40th spots, respectively.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

  1. The Pentagon has notified the US Congress that USD 1 billion have been authorised to transfer to begin building a new wall along the US-Mexico border.
    • This proposed border wall between US and Mexico is designed to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the US through the porous borders.

  1. ICICI Prudential AMC announced launched the ICICI Prudential Bharat Consumption Scheme.
    • The scheme aims to benefit from the Indian consumption story which is considered as one of the fastest growing consumption markets globally.
    • The benchmark for the scheme is Nifty India Consumption Index.
    • Minimum investment of this scheme – Rs 5,000 and in multiples of one rupee
    • Penalty – 1 percent if investments are redeemed within 12 months from the date of allotment.
    • The Nifty India Consumption Index reflects the behaviour and performance of a diversified portfolio of companies representing the domestic consumption sector which includes Consumer Non-durables, Healthcare, Auto.

 

  1. Public sector lender Bank of Baroda will develop an Agri-digital platform called ‘Baroda Kisan‘ in order to provide solutions for all major agricultural requirements.
    • Six companies — Skymet Weather Services, Weather Risk Management Services, BigHaat, Agrostar India, EM3 Agri Services and Poorti Agri Services — have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the bank.
    • It will provide solutions for all major agricultural requirements.

 

  1. The Reserve Bank of India will be setting up Regulatory Sandbox/Innovation Hub for the fintech companies to test their new products and services on the small group of people before expanding and scaling it.
    • A Sandbox is a framework set up by a regulator that allows FinTech start-ups to conduct live experiments on a small scale and under supervision.

  1. World Theatre Day is observed on 27th of March.
    • This day is a celebration for those who can see the value and importance of the art form “theatre”.
    • It is observed by the ITI (International Theatre Institute) centres and International theatre community in 1962.

  1. President Ram Nath Kovind has been honoured with Croatia’s Highest Civilian Award – the Grand Order of the King of Tomislav.
    • He is the first-ever Indian head of state to visit Croatia.

  1. Yoshua Bengio, Geoffrey Hinton, and Yann LeCun have been recognized with Turing Award 2018, Nobel Prize of Computing.
    • They are regarded as “Godfathers of AI”.
    • The $1 million annual prize recognized their work for developing the AI.

 

  1. Amartya Sen was awarded with Oxford University’s most prestigious Bodley award for his contribution in literature, culture, science and communication.
    • He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 1998.

 

  1. Manu Gulati, a Delhi government school teacher, has been conferred the Martha Farrell Award 2019 for promoting gender quality and women’s empowerment.

  1. Virender Sehwag has been appointed as the Brand Ambassador of PolicyX.com – an online insurance web aggregator.

 

  1. International Olympics Committee (IOC) gave provisional green light for the inclusion of Breakdancing in the Paris Olympics 2024.
    • Apart from this, Surfing, climbing and skateboarding will make their Olympic debuts at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

MISCELLANEOUS

  1. Israeli researchers have discovered the World’s Longest Salt Cave called as Malham near the Dead sea.
    • It stretches over 10 km, runs through Mount Sodom which is Israel’s largest mountain.
    • Iran’s Namakdan cave was previously thought to be the longest salt cave.
