  1. 1st ‘Annual Senior Care Conclave – Igniting Industry for India’s Ageing Sector’ held at the Indian Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
    • National Programme for the Health Care of Elderly (NPHCE)” scheme was launched – It addresses various health related issues aims to provide dedicated health care facilities to the senior citizens (>60 year of age) at various level of primary, secondary and tertiary health care.
    • Strategies — Preventive and promotive care, management of illness, health manpower development for geriatric services, medical rehabilitation & therapeutic intervention and IEC.


  1. First-of-its-kind exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN – 2018, a joint military exercise between Indian & Japanese Armies, commenced in Mizoram.


  1. The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) formed a new industry expert committee, under its Emerging Technology Council, focused on AR/VR.
    • Objective – To promote Augmented and Virtual Reality(AR/VR) technology to drive economic growth, job creation, and skill development in the country.
    • Namrita Mahindro – will chair the committee.
    • The Committee will focus on –
      1. Collaboration between industry demand and supply side to enhance awareness
      2. Promote research and innovation and help develop industry standards
      3. Enable dialogue, knowledge sharing and access.
  1. To give boost to Malabar tourism, the Kerala Tourism Department launched a ‘SMiLE Virtual Tour Guide’ site for the region in North Kerala.
    • SMiLE is the acronym for: ‘Small and Medium Industries Leveraging Experiential’ Tourism.


  1. The conversion of decommissioned carrier INS Viraat into a floating museum was approved by the Maharashtra Cabinet.
    • The decision was aimed to make the new generation familiar with the glorious history of INS Viraat.


  1. Ministry of Finance announced loan agreement with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the Construction of Turga Pumped Storage (I) to be done in West Bengal.
    • The Loan Agreement is worth Yen 29.442 Billion or Rs. 1817 crore.


  1. The Delhi government along with the Indian Railways launched a scheme to give free tourism package for senior citizens travelling to 5 religious circuitsMukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana.
    • The destinations will include Vaishno Devi, Haridwar, Amritsar, Ajmer, Agra, and would commence on December 2018.


  1. Odisha Aerospace & Defence Manufacturing Policy, 2018was approved by the state cabinet and rolled out by Odisha government.
    • The process of industrialisation will be accelerated through promotion of aerospace and defence manufacturing.
    • The policy proposed to extend subsidy upto 50 percent of the cost of land, building, plant and machinery to the special purpose vehicle (SPV) for setting up the first state-of-the-art Aerospace and Defence Park in the state.
    • The ceiling will be Rs 50 crores for Common Facility Centre, Rs 30 crore for Technology Innovation Centre and Rs 25 crore for Testing Centre, to be established with private participation.


  1. Arunachal Pradesh Police launched the Arunachal Pradesh Tourist Police and the Arunachal Suraksha App to help the citizens during emergencies.


  1. National Green Tribunal ordered a four-member committee to conduct an inspection and submit report about the waste dumping issue at the Polavaram dam in Andhra Pradesh.





  1. The 3-day long 1st Global Conference on Air Pollution and Healthconcluded at the World Health Organisation’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
    • Theme of the conference: “Improving Air Quality, Combatting Climate Change-Saving Lives”.
    • The Objective of the conference was – to combat one of the world’s most significant causes of premature death: Air Pollution.
  1. ‘Be the Legacy’internship programme was announced at the end of the 18th Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) meeting in Durban, South Africa.
    • The internship programme will be launched on July 18, 2019, the 101st birth anniversary of Nelson Mandela.
    • The programme aims to empower people under the age of 30 from IORA member states with work experience in their interested fields of study.

  1. 76-year old noted Malayalam writer M Mukundan has been selected for 2018 Ezhuthachan Puraskaram award, the highest literacy prize of the Kerala government.
    • He will be conferred for his overall contributions to the language and literature.
    • The award carries a cash prize of Rs five lakh and citation.




  1. Former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid was formally inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
    • Rahul Dravid was named in the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame along with Australia’s Ricky Ponting and England’s Claire Taylor at the ICC Annual Conference in Dublin in July 2018.

  1. A team of United Kingdom scientists led by Matt Loose at Nottingham University, have created a new record for decoding the world’s longest DNA sequence.
    • The scientists have produced a DNA read that is nearly 10,000 times longer than normal.
    • Also, it is two times larger than the previous record from Australia.
  1. India’s first microprocessor, Shakti was designed and booted up by researchers at Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IITM).
    • Objective – To reduce reliance on imported microprocessors in the communication and defence sectors.
