Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Power have joined hands under the initiative SAATHI (Sustainable and Accelerated Adoption of efficient Textile technologies to Help Small Industries)in order to sustain and accelerate the adoption of energy efficient textile technologies in the power-loom sector.
    • These efficient equipments causes energy savings and cost savings to the unit owners.
  1. A team from the Japanese Embassy in New Delhi and stakeholders in the Bamboo handicraft sector of Tripura took part in a workshop called ‘Bridging Japan and India by Bamboo’
  1. The famous Kadaknath chicken meat from Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh has now got a Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
    • The application was made in the category of “Meat Product, Poultry & Poultry Meat“, was approved on July 30.
  1. The commerce and industry ministry joined hands with Invest India to offer its three-month programme ‘Integrate to Innovate’ for start-ups in the sector.
    • This programme would be carried out by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP).
    • i2i programme will provide opportunity for startups for collaboration and conversation around valuable energy transitions by bringing their ideas to life with guidance and support from corporates.
    • The selected startups will receive cash prize grant of up to Rs 5 lakh along with opportunity to pilot their product with corporates.
  1. The Telangana State Information Technology, Electronics and Communication department (ITE&C)signed an MoU with Tech Mahindra to launch India’s first Blockchain district in Telengana at the International Blockchain Congress 2018.
    • It will have process development for the emerging technology with innovative infrastructure and facilities.
    • Blockchain is decentralized incorruptible digital ledger for storing data across peer-to-peer network. It decentralizes information without it being copied.
  1. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched ‘Shaur Nahin’ app as a part of the first phase of ‘Horn Not Ok’ awareness campaign in Manali and Shimla.
    • The app will let the general public to report cases of noise pollution.
    • It will have 2 types of users: general public and officers, both of whom would be authenticated with an one-time password (OTP).
  1. Karnataka government launched ‘Swachha Meva Jayate’ campaign to make every citizen in rural Karnataka take a pledge of cleanliness.
    • The department of Rural Development also released the logo of the campaign: a little boy and a little girl standing in front of the map of Karnataka.
  1. According to a report called N-SIPI (State Investment Potential Index) series by economic think-tank NCAERDelhi has topped the list and has replaced 
    • Delhi jumped one spot from 2017.
    • The ranking was done of 20 states and one Union Territory of Delhi.
    • It was done based on 6 parameters: land, labour, infrastructure, economic climate, governance and political stability and business perceptions.

  1. Delhi division of Northern Railway and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) jointly launched Mosquito Terminator on Wheels, a special mosquito terminator train to prevent mosquito breeding along railway tracks in New Delhi
  1. It is estimated that the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (SBM-G) will result in preventing more than three lakh deaths due to diarrhoea and protein-energy malnutrition between 2014-October 2019, as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) report.
    • The study conducted by the WHO for the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, said India’s rural sanitation coverage escalated to 07% till August 2.
    • The report notes that under the SBM-G, 19 States and Union Territories were declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) and 9 crore toilets were built, while 421 districts were declared ODF.
    • Also, more than 4.9 lakh villages in the country were declared ODF.
    • The report further estimated that 14 million Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) can be avoided between 2014 and 2019.
    • WHO estimation of health impacts is based on Comparative Risk Assessment (CRA) methods.
    • Comparative Risk Assessment is defined as the systematic evaluation of the changes in population health which result from modifying the population distribution of exposure to a risk factor or a group of risk factors.



  1. World’s First Intertidal art gallery called Coralarium is located at the Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi resort in Maldives.
    • The Art Gallery is filled with around 30 Sculptures acting as a habitat for coral and other marine species.
    • The frame of the gallery is made up of pH-neutral marine steel and designed to reflect the blue hues surrounding it.
  1. Social networking giant Facebook has launched “Digital Literacy Library” to help young people build skills they need to safely enjoy online technology.
    • The lessons can be found on Facebook’s Safety Center as well as on Berkman Klein’s Digital Literacy Resource Platform.



  1. Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB) launched a new deposit scheme called Vikas Bonanza 456.
    • The scheme is of a tenure of 456 days with interest rate of 10 percent for public and 7.60 per cent for senior citizens.
    • It also offers annualized return of 35% for the general public and 7.89% for senior citizens.
    • A minimum of 10,000 and maximum of Rs.1 crore can be deposited under this scheme.
  1. As part of its digital initiative, Karnataka Bank integrated its education loan scheme with Vidya Lakshmi Portal of the Union government and has made it available to the public with immediate effect.
    • Vidya Lakshmi Portal is an initiative of the Department of Financial Services, (Union Ministry of Finance), Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Human Resource Development) and Indian Banks Association (IBA) for students seeking education loan, wherein students can apply, view and track the status of their education loan application any-time, anywhere by accessing the portal.
    • Vidya Lakshmi is a first of its kind portal for students seeking Education Loan.

    • It was established in 1977 under auspices of UNESCO. It is hosted by Government of Malaysia and its secretariat is located in Kuala Lumpur.

    • In the 100 meter butterfly, he broke a record set by Olympian Michael Phelps at the same meet back in 1995.
