  1. The Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) is looking into methods used by credit rating agencies as part of its probe into a series of defaults by Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS).
    • The SFIO is a corporate fraud investigating agency in India.
    • It is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
    • The SFIO is involved in major fraud probes and is the co-ordinating agency with the Income Tax Department and the Central Bureau of Investigation.
  1. The government approved guidelines for Rs 500 crore ‘Operation Greens’ programme.
    • To boost production and processing of tomato, onion and potato (TOP) as part of an objective to check price volatility in these three key kitchen staples.
    • Operation Greens aims to promote farmer producers organisations, agri-logistics, processing facilities and professional management.
    • It is essentially a price fixation scheme that aims to ensure farmers are given the right price for their produce.

      2. Long Term Integrated value chain development projects


  1. India’s first indigenous nuclear submarine INS Arihant returned from its first deterrence patrol, successfully completing the establishment of the country’s survivable nuclear triad.
    • The crew of the Strategic Strike Nuclear Submarine (SSBN) were felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
    • The US leads the pack with more than 70 nuclear submarines and is followed by Russia with about 30.
    • Britain and France have 10-12 submarines each.
    • A ballistic missile submarine is a strategic asset as it can fire missiles from anywhere in the ocean and remain undetected for long.
    • It can creep along the coast of an enemy nation and fire ballistic missiles deep into their territory, which cannot be reached by land-based short-range ballistic missiles.


  1. The Bihar Cabinet approved redevelopment of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) into World’s largest 5462-bed hospital.
    • Established in 1925, the hospital would be redeveloped by Bihar Medical Services & Infrastructure Corporation Ltd (BMSICL) and would be redeveloped in three phases in seven years.
    • Presently, the world’s largest hospital currently is in Belgrade, Serbia with 3500 bed.


  1. Baba Ram Dev’s Patanjali forayed into the fast growing branded apparel segment through its brand ‘Paridhan’.
    • It has introduced three brands — Livfit, Aastha and Sanskar— targeting customers across all age groups.
    • Sanskar would be a range of menswear
    • Aastha is a women’s
    • Livfit would have a range of sportswear and Yoga dresses.


  1. Centre plans to operate commercial passenger flights through Seaplanes for connecting selected destinations under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), Udaan 3.
    • Some of the destinations are Statue of Unity at Sardar Sarovar Dam, Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, Tehri Dam in Uttarakhand and Nagarjuna Sagar in Telangana.


  1. India is one of eight countries to receive temporary exemptions from U.S. sanctions on Iran that came into effect on November 5, 2018.
    • All countries – China, India, Italy, Greece, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Turkey.
    • All payments for Iranian oil will be held in Foreign Accounts.
    • In the last fiscal year, India, which imports over 80% of its oil, sourced some 10% of its oil imports, or just over 22 million tons from Iran.
    • The Indian Oil Corporation is the biggest Indian customer for Iranian oil.



  1. ICICI Bank announced partnership with ‘Amazon Pay’ to launch a co-branded credit card, ‘Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card’.
    • This move is expected to help significantly expand the credit card customer base for the bank.

    • The theme of 2018 Ayurveda Day was: “Ayurveda for Public health”.
    • Every year, the Ministry of AYUSH observes Ayurveda Day on the occasion of Dhanawantari Jayanti (Dhanteras).
