 In a report published by the National Crime Records Bureau report (NCRB 2011), the incidence of cyber-crimes under the IT Act has increased by 85.4% in the year 2011 as compared to 2010 in India, whereas the increase in incidence of the crime under IPC is by 18.5% as compared to the year 2010. Thus, to curb these cyber-crimes, the scheme has been launched.

Introduction of the scheme

  • It was launched in Jan 2018.
  • It comes under the ‘Ministry Of Electronics And Information Technology’.
  • The move is taken in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a ‘Digital India’.

Objectives of the scheme

  • to keep our data safe and protected
  • To spread awareness about cybercrime and
  • Building capacity for safety measures for Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and frontline IT staff across all government departments.
  • Applicable frameworks, guidelines and policies related to the subject.

Features of the scheme

 (1) Partnership:

 It is the first public-private partnership of its kind, it is  –

  • Led by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and
  • Supported by National e-Governance Division (NeGD), and
  • A consortium of private players including Microsoft, WIPRO, Redhat, Dimension Data and Deloitte.
  • In addition, there would be other partners who will join as ‘Technical Knowledge Partners’.

 (2) Principles:

Cyber Surakshit Bharat will be operated on the three principles of-

(i)Awareness,

(ii) Education and

(iii) Enablement

 

(4) Fund Management: This program is funded by MeitY under Digital India Capacity Program.
