Key features of the Programme
- The Swachh Iconic Places was launched in 2016, is an initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission
- It is a special clean-up initiative focused on select iconic heritage, spiritual and cultural places in the country.
(2) Coordinated Ministries:
The initiative is being coordinated by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (nodal ministry) in association with
- Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs
- Ministry of Culture
- Ministry of Tourism and
- the concerned State governments with Public Sector and Private Companies as sponsoring partners.
(3) Goal of the mission:
The goal of the Initiative is to improve the cleanliness conditions at these places (spiritual places) to a distinctly higher level.
(4) Phases of the mission:
Phase I: launched in 2016 – 10 iconic sites were taken up in the first phase
Phase II: launched in 2017 – 10 new iconic sites were taken up.
Phase III: launched in 2018 – 10 new and 20 old iconic places of prior phases.
